Hi, I'm Mrs. Giles and I am so excited to be your child's 2nd grade math and science teacher this year!

A Little Bit About Me:

I am a native Houstonian, and I grew up in a non-traditional, extremely diverse family. This has helped to shape me into an individual who is able to see and truly understand multiple viewpoints. I have known that I wanted to teach my entire life and started working with children at the age of sixteen, where I was asked to teach swim lessons at the local YMCA. I have worked at a Montessori school, where I was an assistant teacher. I took some time to raise my two amazing daughters, Aiyana and Miranda. Wile living in Albuquerque, N.M., I became the lead teacher at a local daycare, which reminded me of how much I enjoyed being in a classroom setting. This pushed me into finally going back to school so I may accomplish my dream: teaching elementary. I recently graduated from the University of Houston, (GO COUGS!) where I made the Dean's List, three times. Through persistence and dedication I have realized that anything is possible an I look forward to instilling these qualities into the minds of our future. We are in this together and together we will provide the support, for your child to become successful, lifelong learners!

My Teaching Philosophy

The Following is a link to my entire teaching philosophy-
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Every child brings his/her own set of unique circumstances, experiences and needs into the classroom. It is my job to foster such diversity and guide each child so he/she can meet and surpass their goals. My outlook on life in general is, we are all human, and will make mistakes. It what you do with the knowledge generated from that mistake, that helps to shape us and is life's perfect learning opportunity. One of my main goals as a teacher is for my students to feel confident and successful, in every day. I believe that the classroom is a living community and that everyone must contribute, in order to maintain a positive atmosphere! I wholeheartedly believe that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me, which leads me to one of my favorite education quotes by Paulo Freire:

"Teachers and students are both simultaneously learners and producers of knowledge"
~Paulo Freire~
